Penelope Daugherty
Director and Title IX Officer 541-346-2971

Ms. Daugherty is responsible for managing the University’s affirmative action and equal opportunity compliance functions and directing the activities of the Office of Affirmative Action & Equal Opportunity (OAAEO).  This includes overseeing development and implementation of the University of Oregon Affirmative Action Plan in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, advising administrators, faculty, staff and students regarding affirmative action and equal opportunity issues, overseeing the discrimination grievance intake, referral, informal resolution and investigation process, the reasonable accommodation process for employees with disabilities and serving as a resource with respect to accessibility issues for members of the public with disabilities, and compliance with Title IX.  The office is committed to working with all members of the university community to ensure compliance with applicable affirmative action, equal opportunity and nondiscrimination obligations, and to support and enhance the University’s commitment to diversity.

Annie Bentz
Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Specialist 541-346-2972

Ms. Bentz assists faculty and staff with informal complaint resolution, either individually or in groups, by direct request or upon administrative referral.  She serves as a resource for members of the university community seeking to develop effective strategies for managing change and/or conflict and provides facilitation services to individuals and groups addressing complex organizational or interpersonal issues.  She provides professional development and training for faculty and staff on issues of communication, managing change and/or conflict, and other related topics, and on topics related to diversity.  She is an integral member of the OAAEO team working to ensure best practices and effective affirmative efforts in connection with unclassified searches.

Anne Bonner
Equal Opportunity Specialist 541-346-2985

Ms. Bonner works with members of the university community on informal resolution of discrimination concerns, and conducts investigations of formal discrimination grievances.  She also oversees compliance with the employment provisions of the ADA and assists with addressing accessibility concerns raised by members of the public.  Ms. Bonner contributes to the development training and information materials relevant to the work of the OAAEO and in developing and promoting affirmative practices that advance ongoing affirmative action and diversity efforts.

Vanessa Crakes
Equal Opportunity Specialist 541-346-8795

Ms. Crakes plays a critical role in coordinating the university response to reported issues of sexual harassment, conducting preliminary investigations and working with campus partners to ensure an integrated response to reported Title IX concerns.  She serves as a resource to members of the University community who have questions or concerns regarding prohibited discrimination, discriminatory harassment and equal opportunity issues.  She assists in the development and presentation of training related to all forms of prohibited discrimination and discriminatory harassment, specifically including sexual harassment.

Irini Papantoniou
Office Specialist 541-346-3177

Ms. Papantoniou assists with managing the unclassified search and appointment processes, appropriately processing search and appointment paperwork that requires OAAEO review and approval.  She maintains OAAEO search records, maintains and responds to applicant data requests, posts position announcements to the University of Oregon jobs page, and answers questions about the unclassified search and appointment processes.  She serves as receptionist for visitors to the office, responds to phone inquiries, and assists with preparing materials in connection with all areas of OAAEO responsibility, and serves as backup to the Executive Assistant/Office Manager.

Judith Rideout
Affirmative Action Specialist 541-346-2942

Ms. Rideout has primary responsibility for development and implementation of the university’s affirmative action efforts, gathering and analyzing relevant data, generating required and ad hoc reports, and developing a compliant affirmative action plan.  She works with the OAAEO team and campus partners to understand and generate data that will help guide ongoing affirmative action and diversity efforts, and to identify and promote best practices in areas requiring ongoing attention.  She works closely with the unclassified search process, ensuring that affirmative efforts are consistent with applicable legal requirements.  She also contributes to professional development and information materials regarding affirmative action.

Randi Schmechel
AA/EO Data & Compliance Specialist 541-346-2981

Ms. Schmechel is responsible for maintaining the databases used by the OAAEO to generate affirmative action plans and other reports in connection with the overall affirmative action program.  She generates routine and special reports from those databases as needed by the OAAEO director and other University officials.  She serves a key role in monitoring the unclassified appointment paperwork for compliance with affirmative action obligations, and ensuring accuracy of data collected for affirmative action purposes.  She oversees the adequacy and integrity of data and data systems.

Vivian Wright
Executive Assistant 541-346-2978

Ms. Wright provides confidential executive assistance to the director.  She also provides administrative oversight of the day-to-day operations of the office, ensuring that office procedures support consistent and efficient processing of unclassified search and appointment paperwork.  She serves a primary communications role for the office, responding to questions from a wide variety of on- and off-campus constituents.  She administers the office web site and provides a broad range of assistance to the director and other staff in connection with all areas of OAAEO responsibility.
